THE RELIGIOUS AUTHORITY OF
JESUS CHRIST

The Logos and Son of God who became incarnate of the Ever-virgin Mary. And became the Son of man Jesus Christ, the Anointed Savior. He was born a Jew among the Jews but did not come to save the Jews but the entire race of man. He is the King and God of all mankind and the only legitimate religious authority in existence, Orthodoxy is His Body and Church.  Christ did not come and then disappear into history, but He came and He established his religious authority to which all nations will one day submit. Christ is the Truth and established His Church so as to embrace all men. His authority will bring peaceful coexistence of all nations and the happiness and prosperity of all mankind.

The whole earth is destined to recognize the religious authority of Christ alone is truly, and that He alone is truly God and truly man – the Theanthropos, the Savior and Redeemer of men, and the only one who has been totally victorious and through His victory has granted eternal salvation to all men who so desire. What results can we expect from the recognition of Christ’s authority which is offered to all and will certainly be accepted sooner or later?

Men will repent for their past thoughts and deeds. Sins will be forgiven, evil will come to an end, and the hearts of men will be ruled by peace and love. Nations will no longer rise against nation and the rule of the sword and wars will be eliminated. When evil is wiped away goodness will refreshingly enter and enlighten the world. This will establish a universal brotherhood of all men  in Jesus Christ.  It will also establish general equality and freedom of mankind. Justice will reign and the world will become a true civilization.

To establish Christ’s religious authority will not be a simple task to govern mankind, as there are so many unbelievers and disbelievers, schismatics and heretics that the task appears impossible. Though difficult for men it is easy for God to establish Christ’s authority, for with God all things are possible. He showed a way to unite not just one but an entire society to himself. He sent His beloved Son as mediator between God and man, that by means of faith He might guide humanity to its destined goal, which is to become His image and likeness and in the kingdom of heaven and eternal life.

Christ prepared and instructed His disciples to enable them to carry on His word and spread His religious authority throughout the world by preaching the good tidings of the Gospel. The Apostles were given power and authority over all sicknesses, diseases and demons and the Gospel was spread throughout much of the world. After His resurrection He officially sent them to “Go and preach this gospel to all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.”  While Peter preached to the Jews while Paul preached mostly to various nations as he was sent by the Holy Spirit who was in charge of the infant church.

Christ gave His disciples knowledge of God as He himself knew Him, and He said: “I have manifested your name among the men which you gave me out of the world; they were yours and you gave them to me and they have kept your word” (John 17:6).  “From this time one I call you not servants; for the servant does not know what his lord does; but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known to you ” (John 15:15).

After His glorious Resurrection from the tomb, Christ received full authority in heaven and on earth, and gave His disciples from that authority and ability to do for others what He had done for them, and thus they also became saviors of mankind. Jesus said to them: “Peace be unto you; as my Father has sent me even so do I send you.  And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said unto them, Receive Holy Spirit, whoever’s sin you remit they are remitted unto them; and whosoever’s you retain, they are retained” (John 20:21).

Christ acted in the name of His Father when He came into the world and not in His own name. The Apostles too when they were sent to preach acted not in their own name but in the name of Jesus Christ. They did the will of their High Priest Jesus Christ in all their teaching and preaching, and serving as His priests they proclaimed the Gospel people everywhere. In this way from apostolic time, the sacred priesthood has continued in existence functioning as priests in the name of the absolute high priest.

The Church for some time has lacked true shepherds who sincerely preach the Gospel of truth, but instead speak of unity of heretics with Orthodoxy, an impossibility which is done beneath the banner of ecumenism, which denies the unique nature of Church and Body of Christ. For there is no possibility for union in Christ’s true Church. Entrance into the Church is only accomplished by denying all former erroneous beliefs and being baptized by three immersions, in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
